WOMA N.S.W Event - Kalari Sangha Australia

WOMA NSW Event Review

On Saturday 18 January 2014 WOMA NSW supported the Kalari Sangha Australia group to promote Kalari "Payatt" or "Kalari-Payatt" (Kalarippayattu) to the Indian community of NSW.

“Kalari-Payatt” (Kalarippayattu) meaning “School of fighting” is a classical style from northern part of the Kerala (S.India) focusing on holistic conditioning of the body and mind. It emphasizes elegant Yoga like moves and training in classical Indian weapons.

Guru Anish Thayil, the Australian representative for Kalari Sangha, migrated to Australia with his wife and young son in 2013. The free introductory workshop was conducted at the Emerald Dragon Martial Arts Academy in Penrith NSW.

Sifu David Greenland (WOMA NSW Director) opened the workshop on behalf of WOMA Australia.
The workshop presented the history of Kalari, relevance of the art in the modern times, training concepts in both Northern and Southern Kalari styles, and the fundamental techniques of Kalari which included some hands on demonstrations.

Guru Anish Thayil’s objective of the workshop is to promote traditional Indian Martial Arts to the Indian community through community classes and becoming an active member of WOMA Australia.
